Revised employment data by industry for 2010 and new data for 2011 are available now for those counties that are part of multi-county metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs). These monthly and annual average employment data reflect the March 2011 benchmark. The updated files can be accessed online at: http:www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov/?pageid=166.

The counties are Alameda, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Marin, Placer, Riverside, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has a new online tool, the Virtual Career Network (VCN) for Healthcare workers. The website offers current and prospective health care workers occupational information in the following health care fields:

	•	Medical, dental and nursing.
	•	Office and research support.
	•	Lab work and imaging.
	•	Counseling, therapy and pharmacy.
	•	Vision, speech, hearing and diet.

With more than 80 different occupations to explore, the site offers resources on:

	•	Training (at a campus or online)
	•	Financial aid
	•	Current job listings
	•	Helpful links

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) operates the VCN. The Employment and Training Administration (ETA) of the DOL sponsors the VCN.

The Labor Market Information Division has recently introduced a keyword search for the California Occupational Guides available in Spanish. Search for an Occupational Guide by using hte Spanish occupation title in the keyword search. To access a list of available Occupational Guides in Spanish, enter in Spanish or (in Spanish) in the keyword search, and all the available Spanish Occupational Guides will appear in the drop down selection window:

Nationwide online job advertisements decreased in May compared to April levels. California had a decrease of 30,400 job advertisements from April to May 2012. Nationally, the supply and demand rate was three-to-one compared to four-to-one in California. The supply and demand rate is defined as the number of unemployed individuals for every job advertisement. The supply and demand rates varied between the California regions with most having a higher supply and demand rate than the nation. The Bay Area was was the only region that had a lower supply and demand rate than the nation, indicating improving labor market conditions.

All regions in California saw a decrease in job advertisements from April 2012 to May 2012.
